Police Force commended MP Robert Kyagulanyi for complying with its officers who picked him from Entebbe Airport and drove him home on Thursday afternoon.
Whereas his homecoming was anticipated to be chaotic as masses thronged Entebbe highway to welcome him, security couldn’t allow the opposition politician to interface with his supporters.
The Kyadondo East MP better known as Bobi Wine has gained political traction in the recent past as the leading opposition leader outwitting Kizza Besigye who has dominated the arena for close to 20 years.
Bobi Wine while in transit to Uganda on Wednesday, he warned police against curtailing his freedom and that the security agency had no right to determine his movements.
He insisted he would interact with his fans upon arrival before meeting some of his relatives along Entebbe road and thereafter hold a gathering in his constituency.
But on Thursday this was a different story following heavy police and military deployment in many parts of Kampala and Entebbe.
The police publicist Emilian Kayima would later issue a brief statement applauding Bobi Wine’s compliance.
Today Thursday September 20th 2018 Hon. Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi returned to the country and was peacefully escorted by the police to his residence in Magele, Wakiso District.
We wish to thank him for cooperating with the police at Entebbe International Airport that provided him with transport, escort and a lead car to his home.
We equally thank members of the public for having adhered to the set security guidelines issued yesterday.
Thirdly, there were allegations of media personalities arrested. This is not absolutely true. Some of them were questioned in accordance with the set guidelines. All are all free, going about their lawful businesses normally.
We urge all people to remain calm. Equally, we call upon the Hon. MP to fully comply with the laws of the land and terms of his bail conditions.
