Bobi Wine Weeps at U.S Conference over Prison Ordeal in Uganda

Bobi Wine and his lawyer addressing the media in Washington DC

Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East lawmaker has shed tears before cameras in Washington DC, U.S.

Bobi was addressing journalists on his first media appearance after arriving in the U.S where the legislator is for advanced medical treatment.

The MP who left Entebbe in a wheel chair shared his ordeal at the hands of Uganda’s security organs who arrested him on the eve of the Arua Municipality by-elections before being arraigned in court and charged with treason and after released on bail.

Together with his lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, Bobi Wine narrated the painful experience while in Uganda’s military incarceration for  the two weeks.

Bobi Wine told reporters that he is in U.S to seek medical treatment and as soon as he recovers he will return to his home country Uganda despite threats, repression, adding that there is also likelihood he could face more torture since he is only out on bail.

Talking about the ugly events, Bobi broke down on remembering his slain driver Yasin Kawuma who was shot dead at the hotel he too was arrested from.

With teary eyes and a horse voice, the MP’s life had been turned upside and he felt responsible for the loss of some lives, including that of Yasin Kawuma.

“I am determined to stay on the course. I could have been tortured, I probably face more persecution on my return home, but I will not give up the cause” Bobi said.

He added “This is a struggle I am giving my all and nothing will stop me, not even pain or threats”.

His lawyers Robert Amsterdam asked the Trump Administration to curtail military funding to Uganda. The lawyer said the weapons that were being syndicated by the US Government to countries like Uganda were being used against the people, rather than defence of the country.

The press conference which was broadcast live across the world attracted huge reactions from people in and outside Uganda with others siding with Bobi Wine saying hiscause will get due support from them.

Bobi did not indicate when he returns home but said he will definitely head back to face his aggressors on completion of the specialised treatment he went for.
