The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama has appointed a technical Committee to investigate any claims related to the integrity of the voters’ register.
Byabakama on Tuesday said the Commission is reviewing the reports on the concluded by-elections with a view of establishing the facts of the claims, and be able to apply the necessary remedial measures where necessary in future elections.
Byabakama’s revelations comes after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also the appointing authority, publicly blasted the EC top management and threatened to sack its officials on grounds of incompetence.
Museveni blamed the EC of failing to protect the voters’ register which ended up being altered by opposition.
Museveni further said the officials of EC are culpable to the multiple losses NRM has suffered in the concluded by-elections.
EC has released a statement promising to investigate Museveni’s claims.

The Commission appreciates such stakeholder criticisms because they are a valuable feedback that informs the Commission on the quality of electoral service delivery and areas that may require the Commission’s attention. ms In light of the current concerns about the integrity of the National Voters’ Register, the Commission is reviewing the reports on the by-elections and has appointed a technical Committee to investigate any claims related to the integrity of the Register with a view of establishing the facts of the claims, and be able to apply the necessary remedial measures where necessary in future elections
The Electoral Commission wishes to assure all stakeholders that we are committed to delivering free, fair and transparent elections whose cornerstone is a credible National Voters’ Register.
