A section of Arua residents have written to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni implicating the Red Army as having masterminded the violence which marred the by-election which the ruling party lost.

This group claims to have been shot and injured in the mayhem and now seeks shs 600 million for treatment in South Africa.

According to the letter seen by this website, the four people who are admitted at Arua hospital, say they were attacked by opposition supporters as Museveni’s convoy left town.

The violence left one of Museveni’s car damaged, one person shot dead and several others injured.

“As you are well aware, when the two groups met it was hard to know who was who, but 5 people were shot,” George William Alenyo, the group’s lawyer wrote.

Those injured include Michel Abiriga and Gilbert Ayotre who are admitted at Rhema Hospital as well as Innocent Asega and Isaac Egama who are at Arua Referral Hospital.

The letter was received by State House on August 17, 2018. Mr Alenyo further told the President that the group wasn’t part of the violence orchestrated by the Red Army.

The Red Army, is a new opposition force allegedly commanded by detained Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi and former army commander Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu.

“This violence was exported to Arua from Kampala, Jinja and Ntungamo. Arua was just a theatre for these people to use,” the letter further reads.

The victims’ letter to Museveni

Mr. Alenyo reported to Museveni that his car, Toyota Caldina number UAM 987P was damaged as well as 13 other vehicles bearing NRM colors and signs.

The group therefore, asked President Museveni, who they referred to in the letter as “the father of the nation,” to support them with $160,000 (about Shs. 599Million) to get treatment in South Africa.

This money will facilitate air tickets, along with their two nurses, two doctors and the lawyer himself, as well as hospital bills in South Africa and Arua.

“Since the NRM is the ruling party and you are the father of the Nation, this gesture shall be well received.”
