Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has condemned the brutal arrest and subsequent torture of Kyadondo East lawmaker Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Mr. Kyagulanyi who is in a military detention on charges of illegal possession of firearm is said to be terribly ill and needs special medical attention.
His wife Barbie Kyagulanyi on Friday issued a statement explaining the dire state his husband is currently in saying he doesn’t walk, talk and has several of his bones broken.
This happened aftter he was allegedly subjected to torture by security during his arrest in Arua on Monday night.
Whereas government officials including the President accuse Bobi Wine of abetting an attack on presidential convoy, his supporters, family and members of the opposition refer to these claims as trumped-up and politically motivated.
On Saturday while leading a mass at Lubaga Catholic Church, his grace Archbishop Lwanga joined many Ugandans to denounce government’s actions.
Lwanga said it is inhuman for security to torture opposition members particularly Bobi Wine and Mityana Municipality Francis Zaake because they share different political opinions.
Zaake was arrested alongside Bobi Wine and his condition has worried family. Up to date he remains on life support machine in Lubaga hospital where he was taken on Thursday morning by unidentified people.
Lwanga asked the President of Uganda to investigate and penalize security officials culpable for such actions.
