Opposition legislators led by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Betty Aol Ochan have summoned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola over the incarcerated MPs.
On Tuesday, opposition MPs; Robert Kyagulanyi Bob Wine, Francis Zaake, Gerald Karuhanga and others; Mike Mabikke, Arua Municipality MP elect Wadri Kassiano were arrested by security at Pacific Hotel in Arua following a brawl that led to the death of Bobi Wine’s driver. Bobi Wine and Wadri are today expected to be arraigned before the Court Martial in Gulu while the others have already appeared before the Gulu Chief Magsitrate’s Court.
While addressing the press conference on Thursday, LoP Betty Aol tasked the IGP Ochola to come out with a comprehensive statement about the accused MPs especially Bobi Wine and Zaake whose whereabouts are not known following reports that there are hospitalized after being reportedly beaten by security.
“We want the IGP to give us a report about our colleagues because up to now we are not yet very clear where Hon Kyagulanyi is and which hospital Hon Zaake is,” Aol said.
During Wednesday plenary, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga suspended the House for one hour after inline ministers failed to explain the whereabouts of the caged MPs.
In response, First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Moses Ali informed parliament that Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was flown to Gulu Military Hospital for medical care but he is now okay. He added that the MP along with Kassiano Wadri will be court martialed today after they were found in possession with firearms.
