Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Patrick Amuriat Oboi popularly known as POA has defended the appointed of Kawempe South legislator Mubarak Munyagwa as chairperson of the committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE).
While appearing on NBS TV morning breeze show on Monday, Amuriat defended his last week’s FDC reshuffle in parliament.
Eye popping reactions marred Amuriat’s FDC reshuffle that saw the reigning Leader of Opposition (LoP) Winfred Kiiza replaced by little known Betty Aol Ochan, Gulu Municipality Woman MP.
Amuriat has also been mocked for dropping Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu as COSASE chair and replacing him with Munyagwa whom many have branded as a ‘clown.’
Amuriat said that the appointment of Munyagwa is spot on because of the latter’s hard work and honesty.
“I think the public is very unfair to Mubarak Munyagwa, they should give him time to step into the committee and do his work. I’ve been around him for the past months and he is a very honest and intelligent man,” he said.
“One thing that we need to understand is that MPs qualify to be in parliament and to my mind, all of them qualify and once they qualify to be in parliament, they qualify to be in a parliamentary committee.”
Amuriat also revealed that the appointment of Aol as LoP was not his first option. He said he was forced to go for the second option (Aol) after his first option whom he concealed declined to take up the post.
“An MP rejected the position of Leader of Opposition, and he had his own reasons. We’ve had a lot of consultation, and work done in so many months. But it’s on record that we talked to everyone before a decision was taken to reshuffle,” Amuriat said
