MPs Ask Kadaga to Probe Bagyenda- Kasaija Relationship

Bagyenda

A number of legislators have declared ‘war’ on Justine Bagyenda’s appointment to Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA), the same institution that had previously investigated her source of money.

Bagyenda is a former executive director Bank of Uganda in charge of supervision.

She was relieved of her duties sometime early this year by the Governor Central Bank.

The MPs led by John Baptist Nambeshe who represents Mangiya County on Thursday said it would be wastage of tax payers money for Parliamentary Appointments Committee to approve Bagyenda’s appointment.

She was assigned by Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. However the line minister Hon Matia Kasaija came out to disclose that her assignment was in error.

After her sacking, authorities established that Bagyenda had shs 20 billion stashed on her bank accounts.

Leaked bank details indeed confirmed she owned the money whose source remain unknown until to date.

“She does not qualify to be reappointed to that committee and she is a Christian and according to the book of Deuteronomy in the Bible it states,  thee shall not steal and if she is a real Christian,  she should tell us where she got the money and I call upon the powers in Parliament to block her from appearing before the  appointments committee,” Ngora County MP David Abala.

Hon Nambeshe appealed to the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga to decline Bagyenda’s appointment since she is likely to ‘import’ her corruption tendencies to FIA.

Another cantankerous lawmaker Mbwa Tekamwa told a news conference convened earlier on Thursday that Minister Kasaija asked Ms Kadaga to investigate Bagyenda- Kasaija relations.
