The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Rt. Hon Ruhakana Rugunda has commissioned the new National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) head office.
The office is located at at Plot 3 Nakasero in Kampala city.
He also launched the New NWSC Corporate plan July 2018- June 2021
The Corporate plan will focus on:
- Improved customer service.
- Increase in water and sewerage services coverage across the country.
- Performance management systems
- Development of Inhouse Prepaid water metering systems
- In country assembly of water meters.
- Manufacturing of briquettes as a substitute for firewood for cooking and subsequently reduce deforestation.
- Environmental Protection
- From the Current 240 towns of operation, NWSC plans to serve over 400 towns.
- Improved customer connect sessions (CSR)
Rugunda further inspected largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa under construction at Bugolobi Wankoko.
The new 45million litres per day capacity sewage treatment plant will improve sanitation and health in Kampala, treat waste water from the heavily populated Nakivubo channel, produce 630kw of power from biogas to power the plant and the rest to the grid, estimated to serve over 380,000 people, the project will fuel sustainability of Lake Victoria inner Murchison bay through reduction of pollution entering the lake through Nakivubo channel among many others.
