Wilfred Okello Makmot, the officer who died on a plane in Dubai

Entebbe Airport is abuzz with a heavy police presence following the scheduled arrival of one of their own who passed away in Dubai as he flew back home

The Force is scheduled to receive the body of the late CP Wilfred Okello Makmot at Entebbe International airport this morning.

“TPT (transport) will be at CPS at exactly 10.30am,” read text messages sent to media houses.

Deputy police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said the body will be received this morning as burial arrangements are underway.

The government earlier sent a team of medical experts led by the Director of Police Health Services to carry out an autopsy on the body of Makmot, who died at Dubai airport transit lounge in United Arab Emirates last week.

State minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Okello Oryem, told press that Makmot died of a blood clot.

Makmot is the third government official to die while travelling back to Uganda.

The former minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Aronda Nyakairima, died of a heart disease in Dubai, UAE, as he was travelling from South Korea in September 2015.

Another victim, Ambassador Najuna Njuneki collapsed on the plane as he was travelling from Sweden and died in South Africa in September 2016

Makmot was the coordinator of the national focal point on Small Arms and Light Weapons at the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the time of his death.
