Gen Kale Kayihura’s former personal assistant ACP Jonathan Baroza will be court-martialled upon arrest if he doesn’t report to his superiors by July 22, 2018, police has said.
According to a letter written by Acting Director for Human Resource Management of police ACP Muluya Moses, Baroza has been away without official leave from his duties.
The letter further indicates that shouldn’t he report on duty by the end of July, he will be declared a deserter.
In the force, a deserter can only be charged in the military court.
Baroza was in 2017 posted to Algeria capital, Algiers as Uganda Police Liaison Officer by his former boss Gen Kayihura.
It is believed that he left Algiers on 2nd June aboard Turkish Airlines but never reached his destinations- Entebbe Airport.
This came after he was summoned by the new IGP Martin Okoth Ochola to report to police head offices in Kampala for an urgent business.
His summons followed a series of arrests of top police officers who were allied to Kayihura who until now remains incarcerated at Makindye Barracks over several charges including murder of his junior AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi in March 2017.
Police would later arrest an officer on Kaweesi’s crime scene having been found picking what was believed to be blood samples.
The officer according to reports was sent by Baroza while he served as Kayihura’s aide.
Police has now directed Rwizi Regional Police Commander to mount a hunt for the absent officer at his ancestral home in the western district.
“DPC is requested to check for him at the home of Kabiguruka Yovas of Karora village Rugando sub county Mbarara district and advice the same to report back to his duty station by 22/07/2018 or else be declared a deserter,” reads the letter.
