Besigye Takes Defiance to Nairobi

Besigye receives a gift in Kenya

Uganda’s powerful opposition leader Col Kizza Besigye has said democracy will only flourish in countries where there is an empowered critical mass that influence and determine political processes and outcomes.

The FDC strongman was Monday addressing Kenyan Human Rights activists, lawyers and CSOs at Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi on the roles of an empowered citizenry in the democratization process.

He was also the guest speaker at the launch of a book Kenya: The Failed Quest for Electoral Justice, authored by John Onyando. The book focuses on the disputed 2017 Kenya elections.

He also made reference to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which he says will only cause impact when the people influence political leaders to negotiate on their behalf. He says where leaders negotiate for their interests with the ruling elites, the people will remain to be seen as servants

After his presentation, he was given his portrait as a gift from Kenya Human Rights Commission officials at Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi.

They have applauded his enduring struggle for democracy, good governance and Human Rights in Africa.

They challenged him never to give up on the ideals he has stood and fought for all his life.
