2 Deceased Students Honored at UCU as 1024 are Set to Graduate this Week

Uganda Christian University (UCU) has set its 19th graduation Ceremony scheduled for Friday, July 6, 2018, at the main campus, Mukono District.

Three maiden doctoral and two deceased students are among the 1,024 who will receive their degrees.

They include 554 (54%) female and 470 (46%) male, 31 students will graduate with a first class degree for Friday ceremony.

The three doctoral students include Milly Erema Matura a student of philosophy and the first PhD graduate in the history of UCU.

The other two students are David Goobi Kataate and Selugo James will graduate with a doctoral of ministry.

Dr. Benon Musinguzi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs said being a doctoral graduate means increased ability by the university to offer higher education, “we have been steadily growing in our academic offerings, and several other PhDs are in the pipeline.”

The departed students who will graduate posthumously had finished their final examinations at the time of their death. They are; Julius Akugizibwe who did a Bachelor of Education and Victoria Nakimuli who did a Bachelor of Law but unfortunately Nakimuli had her last breath on the 30th of April 2018 while Akugizibwe died in an accident in January 2018 shortly after finishing his final examinations.

The graduands include the first cohort of Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance which will have 13 students graduate. Inclusive is the former Guild President Prisca Amongin.

Other notable graduands include lawyer and former Presidential Advisor Hussein Kashillingi Rugaba who will be graduating with a Master of Law in Oil and Gas and Aber Lillian, the former Deputy Guild President at Makerere University who will graduate with a Master of Business Administration in Oil and Gas Management.

The guest of honor for the graduation is Professor Ezra Suruma who is the Chancellor of Makerere University and former Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The function will start at 8:00 am.

In line with the UCU practice, graduands will walk away with their transcripts on graduation day to facilitate their quicker absorption in the job market.

This is the third out of the planned seven graduation ceremonies across UCU Campuses and Constituent Colleges this year.

They comprise of three graduation ceremonies at the UCU Main Campus in Mukono, two graduation ceremonies at UCU Mbale University College, and two graduation ceremonies at Bishop Barham University College (BBUC) in Kabale.

Students at UCU Kampala Campus and UCU Arua Campus also graduate from the Main Campus in Mukono.
