Minister Anite

In unprecedented shift of events, the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) board rushed to interdict Executive Director Jolly Kaguhangire to avert an investigation into corruption allegations.

This website has since obtained a letter written by the State Minister for Finance and Economic Development Hon Evelyn Anite UIA board headed by Emely Kugonza.

Dated May 24, 2018, the letter reads, “allegations of corruption in the Uganda Investment Authority restructuring exercise.”

“Reference is made to the ongoing restructuring process of the Uganda Investment Authority and the attached letters alleging undue interference in the process,” the letter further reads in parts.

Anite, reveals to the Board that she learnt the corruption allegations in the Authority are true and the ongoing restructuring exercise can’t result into a positive impact.

“We have noted that if these allegations are true, the restructuring process will not result in a positive impact on the institution.”

The allegations brought against the Board include among others, the following; the Board engaged in operational activities of interviewing lower level staff like cleaners. tea girls and drivers.

The Board shortlisted and interviewed a single candidate for positions at Director level.

The Directors bribed the Board members with shs 50 million each to have them stay in their positions.

The Directors and the Board connived to obtain bribes from investors, sell industrial park land and extort investors in exchange for facilitating their meetings with Ministers a. H.E the President.

The Board intentionally excluded the competition by advertising the jobs internally and conducted the interviews instead of hiring a competent independent firm to do the recruitment.

Against that background, Minister Anite tasked the board to urgently respond to the allegations within two days to enable her office advise on the necessary steps to be taken regarding the restructuring process.

This website however, hasn’t established whether the board had responded by the time of interdicting Kaguhangire.

On Wednesday she shot back insisting she will not step down as per the Board’s recommendations.
