The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Irene Mulyagonja has held secret talks with Jolly Kamugira Kaguhangire.
The one hour closed door meeting, according to sources took place on Wednesday at Kaguhangire’s office at Twed Plaza along Lumumba Avenue.
TrumpetNews has since established that the IGG had been sent by a top government official who is among those that endorsed Kaguhangire for the top job.
Accordingly, the meeting between Mulyagonja and the embattled Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) Executive Director was to facilitate her reinstatement after the Board of Directors on Tuesday threw her out of office on corruption related accusations.
The interdiction comes high on heels of a dossier penned by staff of UIA accusing her of corruption and suffocating those opposed to her leadership.
The dossier was sent to the IGG asking her to institute investigations.
But on Wednesday, Kaguhangire responded that she wouldn’t quit office.
TrumpetNews can authoritatively report that Jolly Kaguhangire has been in office by the time of publication.
Our source privy to yesterday’s meeting said, the IGG was instructed to find a way of exonerating Kaguhangire if at all she is embroiled in those scandals highlighted in the staffs’ dossier.
As a matter of principle, the IGG is not supposed to meet any person who is being investigated by her office nor is she entitled to meet people outside her office.
Ali Munira, the IGG spokesperson when contacted about the matter denied her boss held any talks with Kaguhangire but acknowledged there is a complaint against the UIA boss.
“Yes there is a complaint against her and the IGG as usual is working on the matter. But it is not true that she met that person because she isn’t allowed to,” said Munira, adding that Mulyagonja has since Monday been out of office doing personal things, “so how did she meet the UIA Executive Director?”
Our source however, declined to divulge the top government official who ordered the IGG to meet Kaguhangire.
President Museveni while delivering his last state of nation address said he wasn’t impressed with the IGG’s efforts to tame corruption. In retaliation, the IGG said the President was surrounded by “thieves”.
This latest incident involving the IGG’s office leaves many unanswered questions on the Ombudsman’s ability to fight the vice that has taken over most institutions in the country.
