A private interactive meeting between President Yoweri Museveni and Members of Parliament (MPs) has been postponed and set for Wednesday 27th, June.

President Museveni was on Tuesday, 26th June expected to hold an interactive Q and A session with MPs at State House, Entebbe over matters concerning security in the country.

However, speaking to Chief Government Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa, yesterday, the meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled for a later date to be confirmed because the convener of the meeting, President Museveni was still out of the country for official duties.

“This time the President as the commander-in-chief wants to exchange with us (MPs) in Q and A session. It’s a clear indicator that the commander-in-chief takes security as a priority. We had agreed on tomorrow (Today), but I have to confirm again because I know the President has travelled and we are most likely to have it on Wednesday 27,” Nankabirwa said. She added that this meeting will be moderated by the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and it is for all MPs.

“It’s the Speaker who is in charge and this is beyond an NRM caucus because it is a caucus of a whole house including those who don’t subscribe to the NRM,” she said.

While addressing MPs on the state of security in the country during a parliamentary sitting on June 20, Speaker Kadaga requested for an interactive meeting for all MPs with the President outside Parliament on matters of security considering parliament Rules of Procedure do not allow the House to debate the president’s statement in his presence. In response, Museveni welcomed the Speaker’s request saying, “I have got a good meeting hall in Entebbe state lodge so you are all welcome and in case you are allergic to State house then we can meet here [OPM] and interact. I am available I have no problem.”

Museveni returned from Khartoum, Sudan last night where he addressed a one-day Summit of peace lovers that has been initiated by President Omar Bashir of Sudan.

The Summit running under the theme: “Khartoum Round on Facilitating IGAD Peace Process for South Sudan” took place on Monday at the Freedom Hall Corporation Conference Hall in Khartoum. It was organized with an objective of resolving the South Sudanese political conflicts following an earlier IGAD meeting convened in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa a week ago.

The Addis Ababa conference, among other resolutions, had envisioned that both South Sudan sitting President Salva Mayardit Kiir and the Opposition leader, Riek Machar, agree on a common understanding on peace avenues for a stable South Sudan.

Museveni is today expected to travel to Kenya for another one day meeting before returning to meet MPs on Wednesday.
