As thousands of Arua Municipality residents lined up on the streets to receive Hon Ibrahim Abiriga’s body, a section of unruly youth intercepted the ambulance and forcefully pulled out the casket.
Angry youth demanded that they carry their leader up to his home.
The youth marched on the streets lifting Abriga’s body and that of his brother Said Kongo.
The rowdy crowd was chanting, “we don’t want yellow” as police and other security operatives looked on.
Abiriga’s body was airlifted from Kololo Airstrip to Arua Airstrip where a mammoth gathering was waiting to receive him.
Earlier on Sunday the fallen MP was eulogized in Parliament.
He will be laid to rest on Monday and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief mourner.
Abiriga was a staunch NRM supporter and was among the MPs who spearheded the lifting of Presidential Age Limit.
