As investigations into the cause of the Budo Junior School inferno that claimed 20 pupils in 2008 takes centre stage, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Movit Products Limited, Simpson Birungi has been grilled by security agencies over his alleged connection to the gruesome incident.
TrumpetNews has reliably learnt that Mr. Simpson was intercepted at Entebbe Airport recently on his way for a business trip outside the country.
This website further understands that the arrest was conducted by a joint security team from Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and police.
However, no police authority or ISO was willing to speak on record when contacted for comment.
CID spokesperson Mr. Vincent Ssekate when called, told this website that he had no details of Simpson’s arrest which he learnt from the media.
A local Daily New Vision on Wednesday reported that operatives of ISO had arrested a city businessman in connection to the fire that killed innocent children in April 2008.
The newspaper however, declined to name the tycoon at the centre of investigations but reported that ISO boss, Col Kaka Bagyenda recommended that police authorities were better placed to give a comment.
But Ssekate advised this website to seek a comment from “those who arrested him.”
The Deputy Police spokesperson PatrickOnyango said he was unaware of the arrest before referring us to his colleague ASP Emilian Kayima.
Kayima-police publicist said he would first inquire from his bosses whether Mr. Simpson was arrested.
He promised to revert as soon as he found out but hadn’t by press time.
Mark Odong who heads Crime Organised Unit at CID Kibuli was also unaware of the arrest.
“The best people to seek information from are police spokespersons,” he said.
This Website couldn’t ascertain whether Mr. Simpson is in custody or not, but someone from Movit who asked not to be named said, “my boss travelled and will be back next week.”
New Vision further reported that Simpson’s arrest hinges on findings which indicate that he had a fierce dispute with Budo Junior School administrators over land.
His son Stuart Birungi when reached clarified to TrumpetNews that those peddling the rumours want to extort money from his father
But declined to reveal his father’s whereabouts saying a family lawyer is the only one assigned to speak on behalf of Mr Simpson.
We couldn’t reach the lawyer for a comment.
TrumpetNews has independently launched investigations to ascertain whether it is true Mr Simpson is linked to the 2008 inferno at Budo Junior School.
Until today government has never come up with a conclusive report on this fire.
In April 14, 2008, 19 pupils of Buddo Junior School were killed in a fire that ravaged their dormitories at night.
The fire, whose cause is still unknown, started at about 9 p.m. in Nasolo Ward, a dormitory that houses Primary Four girls.
There was no electricity at the school at the time and it is believed the fire may have been sparked off by a candle.
Exacerbated by the highly flammable pillows and mattresses in the dormitory, the fire quickly spread through Nasolo Ward to the neighbouring Nnalinya and Sangalyambogo wards.
