The Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola on Monday night announced Peter Kakonge as the new Flying Squad Unit Commandant.
D/SSP Kakonge who has been a detective at CID Kibuli in Kampala replaces ACP Herbert Muhangi who was last month transferred to Human Resource Department.
Kakonge’s appointment breathes new life to Flying Squad operations after earlier, reports indicated that the unit was disbanded and would be replaced by Organised Crime Unit headed by D/SSP Mark Paul Odong following closure of Nalufenya its command center.
Further, IGP Ochola made several changes in the mini CID reshuffle.
For example, D/ACP Isaac Oketcho has been moved from CID headquarters to Special Investigations Department (SID) Kireka as Acting ACP Commercial Transactional crimes.
D/SSP Peter Muwonge leaves CID headquarters to serve as trainer of detectives while Hosea Manyindo will head media crimes section.
D/SSP Okello Obura moves from CID headquarters to Kiira where he will take charge as the Regional CID officer while D/SSP Sulaiman Kabuye has been reinstated and transferred to Rwenzori as regional CID officer.
D/SP Willy Kalimbano shifts from Kiboga to the Railway Police as regional CID officer.
