JEEMA Blasts Besigye: You are Selfish

JEEMA president Basalirwa

Justice Forum party leadership has taken a swipe on Col Kizza Besigye describing him as ‘chief preacher of dishonesty’ over his Monday remarks on the upcoming Bugiri Municipality MP polls.

The election has since split the opposition into two blocs with pro-Asuman Basalirwa camp pitting against FDC.

Basalirwa, the JEEMA president has for long been a close ally of FDC, particularly Col Besigye who on several occasions represented as his legal officer.

The two fell out in 2015 when Basalirwa openly backed former Premier Amama Mbabazi.

To many radicals who ‘worship’ Besigye, this was the beginning of the end of Basalirwa’s political career.

On Monday night Besigye issued a statement through a live TV broadcast clarifying that he will support the FDC candidate Eunice Namatende.

Besigye further questioned why JEEMA leadership was imposing their candidate on the constituents claiming he is the most popular.

He wondered what scientific method they had employed to determine his popularity.

Against this background, JEEMA publicist Eunice Namatende, has issued a scathing responding to Besigye’s ‘lies.’

“We have received with regret Dr. Besigye’s statement on Bugiri Municipality elections where he has informed the public that JEEMA failed the negotiations for having a joint candidate in Bugiri.

I want to put out the following facts for the public to make their conclusions;

 It was never the idea of Dr Besigye nor FDC to have a joint candidate in Bugiri. Instead, JEEMA wrote to different opposition parties for support of their candidate; Asuman Basalirwa and various parties and all agreed save for FDC whose leadership insisted that they should first subject us to a kamyufu of sorts before supporting us which we rejected.

Democratic party had a candidate in the names of Mukisa Richard Wakhooli whom they withdrew in favour of Basalirwa.

 We have always been preached to that parties are not necessary in this struggle and our biggest disappointment today comes from the chief preacher of that gospel now telling Ugandans that his party is superior to the struggle of ousting the junta. What a shame!

 Today, the people of Bugiri spoke and FDC leaders have witnessed their voice.

Let that dishonesty talk of “he’s not on ground” end today and they (FDC) tell us boldly that they are building their party and the liberation struggle is secondary.

We’ve had enough of dishonesty,” reads the statement.
