EC Ready to Quell Rukungiri Election ‘Showdown’ Tomorrow

The Electoral Commission has finalised preparations for the by-election of District Woman Representative to Parliament, Rukungiri, and Local Government Elections in newly created Town Councils of Kebisoni, Buyanja, Rwerere and Bikurungu in Rukungiri District.

Polling shall take place tomorrow, Thursday,  May 31, 2018.

Voting shall be by universal adult suffrage, and shall take place at all the two hundred and eighty (280) polling stations in Rukungiri District, beginning at 7:00am and ending at 4:00pm. Rukungiri District has a total of 177,086 registered voters.

The candidates in the race for Member of Parliament are: Bamukwatsa Betty (Forum for Democratic Change), Kukundakwe Fabith (People’s Progressive Party), Matsiko Winfred Komuhangi (National Resistance Movement) and Sezi Prisca Bessy Mbaguta (Independent).

The vacancy of the District Woman Representative to Parliament for Rukungiri District, occurred on 22nd March 2018, when the Court of Appeal nullified the results of the 2016 Parliamentary Elections.
