Security Minister, General Elly Tumwine has been ordered to appear before Parliament and explain himself for having insulted Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
Tumwine’s recent tirade of outbursts stem on Parliament’s decision ordering him to vacate Nomo Gallery, a government facility he purportedly hijacked since 1998.
The legislators while debating the report from the Committee of Gender on the Ministerial Policy Statement of the Ministry of Gender, Parliament agreed to evict Tumwine and also order him to pay rent arrears of shs 1 billion.
Appearing on a local radio station, the UPDF general arrogantly referred to the Speaker Kadaga as ignorant, and doesn’t know what she is talking about.
“That Parliamentary recommendation is impossible because Nommo gallery is not for government, I repeat; Nomo gallery is for visual artists. President Milton Obote donated one of the houses that were part of State House at Nakasero and from then Nomo gallery is for artists, not government,” he said.
His revelation has since aroused outrage among MPs who asked the Speaker to summon the minister to make a statement.
The Speaker ruled to have the Minister appear before the house and explain himself over the matter.
“I have been reading the nonsense that has been going in the press, certainly he will be required to come here and explain himself to the house; I believe a number of these issues will have to go to the Rules Committee and as soon as the budget reports are done, he will be put on the order paper to make a personal statement,” Kadaga said.
