Bigirimana: Rejecting Me on Umeme Board is Work of Mafias

Bigirimana

Gender Ministry Permanent Secretary (PS) Pius Bigirimana cites mafias at the center of his rejection to join Umeme Board having been nominated by NSSF.

NSSF is Umeme’s majority shareholder and Mr Bigirimana was among the five nominees.

On Thursday during Umeme annual general meeting, shareholders denied Bigirimana as NSFF nominee on grounds that he is a ‘spoiler.’

Speaking to Daily Monitor reporter, he reacted to the claims; “I heard that some people in the meeting claimed that I am involved in different scandals. But I have helped NSSF [through its board] to grow. I thought I would add value to Umeme.”

He added that he was not in position to understand their decision, blaming on “mafias”, who would have slightly fought his nomination.

Asked why he could have been rejected, Mr Bigirimana told the reporter “Mafia at work”, adding “I do not know the reasons because I was not in the room [AGM].”
