Massive Turn-up as Burundi Votes on Referendum

Voters

The Republic of Burundi is Thursday voting in a referendum suggesting constitutional changes.

According to the reports, Burundi has five million people registered as voters in the ongoing election.

Already, there is massive influx of voters on several polling stations as the citizens are exercising their constitutional right.

In Bujumbura, the capital, there are long lines of voters and the security forces have been deployed across the city to ensure safety of the people as well as ensure the sanity until the process is closed.

According to observers, the voting exercise is moving on smoothly with no reports of violence.

Voting appears to be going smoothly in most areas, although there are some allegations of intimidation, according to the activist group iBurundi, which monitors alleged abuses by authorities.

Polling will officially end at 6pm, local time and as the country waits for results.
