President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Monday received one of the shocks of his Presidency when angry traders physically blocked his convoy in Kampala protesting delayed payment for services provided to the police force.
These service providers mainly food suppliers of posho and beans have been demanding colossal sums of money that accumulated to a tune of shs 33 billion.
These suppliers beginning this year announced the decision to cut of services after former IGP Kale Kayihura’s leadership wasn’t expressing readiness to clear the huge debt.
It is understood that the debt dates way back since 2015.
Against that backdrop, the suppliers association members came up to the conclusion in meeting held early this year in Kampala which was spear headed by chairman Badru Kisitu to stop supply.
The announcement came hot on the heels Kayihura’s declaration that the force was cash-strapped.
He thus implored government to bail the force on a debt of Shs 125 billion.
But later, President Museveni intervened in the matter and pledged that the suppliers would be paid as soon as possible, in vain.
On Monday, a few members of the association intercepted the President near the clock tower round about in Kampala and angrily told him off for forgetting them.
He once again promised that their grievances would be worked on as faster as possible.
