President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has equated Ugandan doctors to enemies of the State who abandoned patients and left them to die.
He said as he clarified on why government opts to hire Cuban medics.
“I wanted to bring Cuban doctors because our own doctors behaved very badly and unprofessionally. They tried to incite to abandon patients so that patients die,” he said.
“I refused to be blackmailed and I said lets import doctors to bring discipline to this crooked behavior. When they were involved in that fujo, one of them was involved in an accident and he was rushed to another doctor to help him. What would have happened if he wasn’t helped?”
“You cannot lecture me on working for Uganda. We fought for no pay for many years and when we won we have been working for low pay all this while,” he said.
“These soldiers here have been fighting for no pay or low pay. Why do they never go on strike? A doctor who goes on strike is not a doctor. He is an enemy of our people and we shall treat him as such.”
