Senior Presidential Advisor on media affairs Tamale Mirundi has described the people of Rukungiri District as ‘strategists’ who know what they want.
Mirundi said unlike Baganda who spend much of their time ‘worshiping’ the Kabaka, residents of Rukungiri are developmental reason they asked for money from the President to boost their SACCOs.
“When you go to restaurant in town that cooks rice only, do you ask for yams?” Mirundi asked in relation to the shs 5 billion which President YowerI Kaguta Museveni donated to 120 SACCOs in Rukungiri in form of assortment of goodies.
However, the donation received a backlash from members of the public particularly opposition politicians who questioned the source of the funds.
But Mr Museveni earlier announced he had picked the money from State House budget.
Kizza Besigye, Museveni’s all time political rival who hails from the same area described this as a move to entice locals ahead of the Woman MP by-election.
But Mirundi appearing on his weekly show on NBS said westerners are money minded and treasure wealth unlike other tribes whose priorities are ‘somewhere.’
He said Baganda can’t think about investment when much of their time is wasted on impressing the kingdom.
Mirundi is a renowned critic of Buganda Kingdom.
