A nine month old baby on Monday morning died in police cells in Luweero District.

The baby has been with her month Sara Nantume inside Bugema Police post who had been detained over trespass charges.

Daily Monitor reports that Nantume was first held at Busiika police post before she was transferred.

Paul Kangave, Savannah Regional police spokesperson further told the newspaper that police wants to ascertain the cause of death.

“We are investigating all these circumstances including the alleged charges.”

Kalagala Sub-County Chairperson, Mr Daniel Sserubide said the police should explain how a breast feeding mother was denied bail despite her plea to let her go home with her sick child.
