CMI Denies Detaining Ugandan Journalist over Links with Rwandan Fugitives

Sulah Wakabirigi,a Ugandan journalist-cum political activist, a few weeks ago went missing.

His friends and family members would later launch a search and on Monday information obtained revealed that he was arrested and is held incommunicado by Military Intelligence at its head offices in Mbuya, Kampala.

Through sources, TrumpetNews further learnt that Sulah who worked at New Times in Rwanda and later fled the country citing persecution and fear for his life was very close to government officials critical of President Paul Kagame’s leadership.

Sulah, more information indicates associated with a group of Rwandans who were fired from New Times five years ago.

This group was found to be very negative to Kagame yet New Times is a state owned newspaper.

Arrest

A source told this website that sometime back a Rwandan fugitive telephoned Sulah that he was in Uganda and sought sanctuary for a few days as he processed travel documents to take him to Tanzania.

“This fugitive and Sulah were very close friends at a time the latter worked in Rwanda,” a source said.

Sulah, where he is a born Ugandan, he studied and worked in Rwanda.

Indeed, the fugitive whose names are not yet established, after a few days travelled to Tanzania for fear of being kidnapped and repatriated to Rwanda.

Sulah would later be arrested by operatives who according to a source belonged to Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).

Brig Kandiho however, denied having in custody the person of Sulah Wakabirigi.

When asked Kandiho said, “No, we don’t have any Sulah.”

UPDF spokesman Brig Richard Karemire when contacted said, “no information about this person.”

This Website has launched investigations to establish his whereabouts.
