On April 12, 2018, a two year old baby identified as Lowena Murungi went missing from her home in Kinoni Trading Centre in Rwampara, Mbarara District.
Her parents, Andrew Muhumuza and Marion Musimenta kicked off a search, but would later be dismayed after receiving a phone call from unknown people demanding for a ransom of shs 5 million so as to release their daughter.
At first the abductors used an airtel line 0700623115.
The deceased’s parents approached relevant authorities and launched a search until Thursday when police arrested and detained a one Godfrey Ngasirwe the owner of the simcard which the kidnappers have been using to demand for a ransom.
Ngasirwe has for a long time been known as pastor in Rurenje village, Nyarubungo Parish in the same sub-county.
He was found in possession of the simcard.
Ngasirwe was subjected to interrogation and he later confessed to have murdered the baby and dumped her body in nearby swamp in Rugando .
Police also arrested Amon Kamugisha whose simcard 0702445930 was used the pastor as he demanded money from Lowena’s parents.
Investigations indicated that Amon was an accomplice in this crime.
The suspects are being held in Mbarara as police carries out more investigations.
