Security has Monday been engaged in a melee with Makerere University students who are protesting against new proposal to scrap evening classes and provision of meals.
Armed police men fired volleys of teargas and live bullets to disperse processions of protesters within the university.
University Guild President Papa Were Salim, is among those who have been arrested and whisked away to unknown destination.
Makerere publicist Ritah Namisango has said they are doing everything possible to engage the students through dialogue.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe who is away in Kenya will meet the student leadership when he returns.
