The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mike Chibita has withdrawn murder charges he had sanctioned against socialite Brain Kirumira.
Commonly known as Bryan White, he was last year charged along with other Corporal Thomas Okota police officer attached to Crime for shooting and injuring Victor Bitwire, a resident of Munyonyo.
He was arrested at Kabalagala police and later transferred to Nalufenya detention facility and on December 13, 2017, Bryan White was remanded to Luzira Chief Magistrate.
Earlier on Monday, the state prosecutor Happiness Ainebyona asked the Makindye Chief Magistrates court to adjourn the matter to a further date because the Director of Public Prosecutions was contemplating dropping charges against the accused.
Dated April 9, the withdrawal form indicated that the DPP has officially written to court informing them that he has lost interest in the case.
“This is to inform court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has decided to discontinue proceedings against Kirumira Bryan and Okoth Thomas who had been charged with attempted murder,” says in part, the withdrawal form signed by Mike Chibita copied to the Resident State Attorney for Makindye and the Kampala South regional CID.
Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza accepted the request by the DPP and closed the file.
