Age Limit: Petitioners Name  High-Ranking Regime Officials as Key Witnesses

Lukwago representing the petitioners

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who represents a section of opposition legislators that petitioned the Constitutional Court challenging the age limit act has listed a number of top government officers as witnesses.

Lukwago told a panel of judges who are hearing the petition in Mbale on Monday that he intends to cross examine the army commander General David Muhoozi, Secretary to the Treasurer Keith Muhakanizi, Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Frank Mwesigwa, Director of Police Operations AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi , Clerke to Parliament Jane Kibirige and John Mutala.

A panel of five judges led by the Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Remmy Kasule, Elizabeth Musoke, Cheborion Barishaki and Kenneth Kakuru however advised Lukwago to give the specifics why he wants the above mentioned individuals cross examined.

They asked Lukwago to expound the grounds why he wants these top officials appear before court and what role they played during the passing of age limit law.

The government legal officer- Deputy Attorney General Hon Mwesigwa Rukutana however contested this application.

The justices announced they would pronounce themselves on the matter later on Monday afternoon when Court resumes business.
