Patrick Oloka, a resident of Kungu, a Kampala suburb who claims to be Police Chief Okoth Ochola’s son has been arrested for conning eight officers promising them quick promotions and deployment.
According to Daily Monitor, he was arrested on Friday having solicited cash ranging from shs 300000 to 500000.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations spokesman, Vicent Ssekate confirmed eight officers had been conned.
The IGP when contacted denied knowing Oloka as his son.
“Some officers have recorded statements with the police and confirmed that he took their money. They said he approached them saying that he was the first born of the IGP and would influence their promotions and transfers. He solicited from them money ranging from Shs300,000 to Shs500,000 to purportedly help them. Unfortunately, some paid the money,” Ssekatte said.
He again asked these police officers to offer a turkey or a cock as a gift that he would pass on to the newly appointed IGP.
Oloka told police that by referring to the IGP as his father, he was using it in a local context to mean an elder since he is an uncle.
The suspect is detained on charges of impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.
