Museveni to Meet Crime Preventers Tomorrow over New Roles

Blaise with Museveni on Monday

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will Wednesday meet a vigilante group-cum- security organisation Crime Preventers which was formed by former Police Chief General Kale Kayihura.

After his sacking speculation was that the group would be disbanded by the new police administration headed by Okoth Ochola.

The speculation was earlier triggered by unwavering concerns raised by members of the public accusing the organisation of engaging in criminal activities; robberies, murders, extortion, torture among others.

It had emerged that the group that began as a means of community policing had regained autonomy from the mother institution- Uganda Police and become powerful to a point that its commanders would issue orders to senior police officers.

This was blamed on sacked IGP who entrusted this semi-trained security organ with such directives.

Blaise Kamugisha, the organisation’s superintendent attracted hatred from senior command of the police because of his closeness and easy access of Gen Kayihura.

As reports suggested that police boss contemplated dispersing Crime Preventers, Kamugisha meanwhile was busy lobbying President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

According to sources, the two held talks for four days in a row at the President’s upcountry home in Rwakitura until a consensus was reached.

Against the backdrop, Kamugisha took a picture with Museveni in a presidential jet before he told the media that, “the future of crime preventers is bright.”

However, details of Rwakitura meetings remain scanty.

This website has learnt that Museveni will Wednesday address this group at East Africa University Kasanga in Kampala.

The meeting is scheduled to commence at 11am.

What till be discussed remains undisclosed, but the Presidential Press Secretaries confirmed the meeting will take place.

Blaise Kamugisha didn’t pick our repeated calls for a comment.
