New Police Chief Okoth Ochola has stripped police officials of fuel cards as a recommendation to curb the unnecessary expenditure, TrumpetNews authoritatively reports.
The IGP has since ordered that all police cars must refuel at gazetted police barracks which include Nsambya, Central Police Station (CPS) and Police Headquarters in Naguru.
The directive comes at a time the Force is imploring government to clear its debt which accumulated to a tune of shs 125 billion arising out of expenditure mostly on fuel.
This website understands that in the previous administration, top cops have been using cards to sell fuel, refill their personal cars, family vehicles, friends and many more.
Most of the beneficiaries of this free fuel among others were journalists that are entrenched in the police inner circles, civilians used as informants, girlfriends and boyfriends of senior cops.
“But all this has come to an end,” a source who divulged details said.
We further understand that Ochola is aiming at “disposing off the rot he succeeded” in an effort to clean the police institution whose image has been dented to the marrow.
Further, Ochola has ordered the restoration of toll free phone number 999 which had been replaced by emergency unit on number 112 as set by the Force’s ICT department.
