President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday afternoon congratulated Chinese leader Xi Jinping upon re-election on Saturday.

The Ugandan President took to social media platform Twitter, “Congratulations to Chinese President Xi Jinping & Prime Minister Li Keqiang upon their election to a second term in office. I also congratulate Wang Qishan, the new Vice President.”

He again informed Xi that “Uganda looks to continue strengthening its diplomatic and economic ties with China.”

Similarly his Burundian counterpart Pierre Nkurunziza sent his congratulatory message to Mr. Xi on Sunday, Foreign Affairs Minister Alain Nyamitwe announced.

“President Nkurunziza has sent a congratulatory message to H.E President Xi Jinping of China on the occasion of his re-election as President of the People’s Republic of China,” Nyamitwe also wrote on twitter.

The two East African heads of State also congratulated Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and Vice President Wang Qishan.

Xi’s re-election comes at a time when he removed presidential term limits, same way Museveni and Nkurunziza supported the lifting of age and term limits.
