Tensions Rise in Jinja as Voters Brave Heavy Downpour to Elect MP

Voters brave heavy down pour

The heavy down pour that rocked nearly the whole of Uganda this morning did not deter eager voters from braving the showers to vote for their candidate of choice in the Jinja East By-election.

The two leading contenders for the seat are FDC’s Paul Mwiru and NRM’s Nathan Igeme Nabeta who was recalled from Parliament over election malpractices

The Electoral Commission in another development requested Security Organs to investigate origins of pre-ticked ballot papers that FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat claims were found with NRM supporters.

The EC Spokesperson Jotham Taremwa however said the ballot papers were fake. He said they had verified and found out that the serial numbers of the said ballot papers did not match the ones that the EC printed.

As tension rises in Jinja, fresh violence has erupted at Jinja Main Street Primary School polling station as agents and supporters of rival candidates accused each other of ballot stuffing.
