Sacked IGP Gen Kale Kayihura declared his intentions to become President way back in 2010, revealing to his closest friends that a UPDF General without Presidential ambitions is ‘useless.’
Kayihura was last Sunday sacked by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni after the two fell out over what the latter termed as ‘bean weevil’ that had infiltrated the Force.
Gen Kale, has been at the helm of the police establishment for 13 years, but many questioned his leadership style after he recruited self confessed criminals to run the police.
These thugs would later be arrested and charged with a number of cases including robbery, murder, kidnap and illegal repatriation of Rwandan refugees.
Some of these criminals include Nixon Agasirwe and Abdullah Kitata, very close allies of Kayihura.
According to Kayihura’s pal who asked not to be named said that in 2010 while the two had a chat, the embattled UPDF General revealed that he was slowly nursing ambitions of taking over the Commander In Chief’s job.
“He told me that one day he will lead this country Uganda,” said a pal.
However, this pal said that Kayihura declined to divulge what means he would use to acquire the Presidency.
Whether through military means or the ballot remains the former IGP’s secret.
In the recent years, a youth led group started circulating placards bearing Kayihura’s picture with words ‘Kayuhura for President.’
He would later deny having sponsored the campaign.
“Now that he was sacked, I don’t know if he still has the same ambitions,” a pal added.
Reports suggest that Kayihura was sacked because of his close links with Rwanda Government.
Whether, Rwanda government would sponsor his move to takeover Presidency, this Website couldn’t verify.
But the Ambassador of Rwanda to Uganda Frank Mugambage, sometime back denied that Kayihura was being used by his government to destabilise Uganda.
Efforts to reach Kayihura for a comment were futile as all his known phone numbers can’t be reached.
