Rwandan President Paul Kagame Will not be available for East African Community Heads of State Summit slated for Thursday at Common Wealth Resort Munyonyo in Ugandan Capital, Kampala.
According to information obtained by this website, Kagame will be represented by Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure James Musoni.
It remains unclear why Kagame sent his Minister and failed to attend in person.
The Ministry of Foreign confirmed Kagame won’t be part of the 19th Ordinary East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit that is taking place in Kampala.
The development follows a series of media reports alleging that Uganda- Rwanda relations are strained despite multiple attempts by both nations to end the ‘cold war.’
Whereas Uganda late last year hastily dismissed reports that there was exiting tension between the two landlocked East African Countries, early this year the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Sam Kutesa met Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali in a bid to end the ‘hostility.’
A little less than a month, while in Ethiopia, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met twice his counterpart and held a number of issues.
The meetings came as accusations between the two neighbours intensified with Kigali particularly expressing concerns that Uganda harbours opposition elements keen on destabilising Rwanda.
Whether the two leaders reached a consensus it remains unknown as both government are yet to comment on outcomes these meetings.
The theme of this week’s Summit is “Enhancing Socio-Economic Development for deeper Integration of the Community, will crown the EAC activities.”
