Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura on Tuesday addressed the nation giving preliminary reports on the mysterious deaths of the foreigners in Kampala Hotels.
Kayihura, speaking from police head offices at Naguru in Kampala confirmed that Swedish national Alex Nordlarndar Sebastien Andreas and Finish national Terasvouri Tuomas Juha Petteri deaths were caused by mixed drug intoxication.
The IGP who was accompanied by police pathologist Moses Byaruhanga told the nation that, “the focus is on the scientific evidence we have. We have made some arrests and we are still in the early stages of interrogating them. This is tragic and we shouldn’t read a lot through it. We should focus on the drugs and how the deceased got them.”
Whereas the police pathologists mentioned scientific terms of substances found in bodies of the two Europeans after conducting post-mortem, Kayihura likened the content(s) to pesticides, particularly the insecticide used to kill bed bugs.
The reports further indicate that the dead foreigners had drug overdose of narcotics, biochemicals and alcohol.
Kayihura said investigators are trying to establish personalities who could have sneaked, procured the drugs to these foreigners.
What remains unclear is whether the deaths were planned or it was a coincidence.
In two weeks three foreigners have died in Uganda, the latest being an American tourist Monteni Gay Watson, 61, who found dead in Bwana Tembo Safari Lodge in Obira Parish, Got Apwoyo sub-county, Nwoya district.
