Kayihura: Those Witch-Hunting Police Have committed Worst Atrocities

Very rich; Kayihura

Inspector General of Police (IGP) has opened a can of worms saying the police establishment is run by human beings not angels.

Adding that those fighting the institution have at one point committed worst crimes only that they were not exposed.

Kayihura was speaking for the first-time on the image of police while passing out officers at Police Staff College Bwebajja.

The Police Chief admitted that the force has been infiltrated by criminals but that doesn’t make the entire institution ‘rotten.’

“Yes there are some characters but not all the officers are bad and we have been trying to see how to rectify this,” he said, adding: “and mistakes are there. We are not angels or evil.”

The UPDF general further expressed distress in relation to how top government officers have been judging police and exonerating other security agencies.

Kayihura wondered whether those who have led a campaign of witch-hunt against police are ‘too clean.’

His remarks come against a backdrop of several arrests of senior police officer by Military Intelligence over murders, kidnaps, robbery and illegal repatriation of Rwandan refugees.

What broke the camel’s back was the recent arrest of a civilian-cum-operative Abdullah Kitattaa a close associate of Kayihura.

His arrest by CMI came a little less than a week when Kayihura defended the ‘illegal’ actions of Kitatta as lawful.
