Bushenyi District is popular for among other things their former love for ex Uganda President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote, and their unrivalled status as the ‘model district’.
But that is not all.
For the pork and alcohol lovers, Kabagarame, a weekly Pork and Beer market was a must-attend every Saturday for a horde of party people some as far as Kampala and Mbarara.
The sad news is that the popular hangout is now in ashes.
Pictures that have been circulating this afternoon on various social media platforms show that the whole place which was an expanse of over 2 acres riddled with mud huts, butcheries, make-shift bars and shanty restaurants was gutted down by a fire.
The cause of the fire is said to have come from an abandoned light piece of wood that started off from one hut spreading and gutting down the whole place
Disappointed revellers who were accustomed to Kabagarame’s famous pork with kalo (local millet bread) took to social media to “mourn” their favourite joint that will leave many memories.
The most surprising disappointment messages were from St. Kagwa Bushenyi High School students who had made it like near mandatory to sneak out of school, remove their clothes, wade through a swamp before crossing to the other side to partake pork, Tonto (local alcohol brew) before staggering back through the same strenuous process back into school happy fellows.
