Kifeesi leader Ssobi: Kayihura used, dumped and forgot us

Paddy Sserunjogi, an alleged leader of a criminal gang-Kifeesi- that has been causing mayhem across Kampala City and its neighbouring towns accuses Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura of betrayal.

Sobbi was arrested by policemen from Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) command, along with two other members of the gang identified as Kasozi Shafiq and Twaha Tim at Rose Gardens Hotel in Nsangi town on Monday.

Prior to his arrest, Ssobi and his co-accused expressed disappointment to journalists who they addressed at Rose Gardens Hotel.

“I am not mad. I am very sober person and whatever I say know my conscious is very clear. I and my colleagues are very changed persons,” Ssobi said.

He added that he decided to blow his cover because he was tired of running for his life after committing a lot of attrocities in the country.

Ssobi in 2012 he was arrested on murder charges and arraigned before Buganda Road Court.

This Court committed him to the High Court but due to lack of substantial evidence he walked a freeman.

Ssobi after he was arrested

Speaking to journalists moments before his arrest, Ssobi confessed that together with some of his colleagues they met IGP at his residence in Muyenga and agreed to help Police Force to combant increased criminality.

In return the Gen Kayihura pledged to recruit these thugs into the Force.

“We are speaking this as people who are in police. We want to help other fellows who would wish to come out publicly and denounce criminal gangs. We met Kayihura and he promised that if we do so he will do something for us,” Ssobi said.

But it has been a tendency of the current police establishment to recruit former thugs to abet in intelligence gathering and also exposing Kifeesi cells in the city.

Nixon Agasirwe, a senior police officer who was sent to jail by the military court on charges of kidnap is among the those who joined the force through this similar channel.
