The National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Moses Kahima Mugabe has been declared winner of Ruhama County by-election.
Mugabe won with 31102 votes while his opponents all on independent ticket polled as follows;
Peninah Beinomugisha garnered 2103 votes, Jackson Mubangizi Kabikire got 16345 and Vastine Orishaba polled 523.
The total number of valid votes cast were 50073, invalid ballot papers were 703 and spoilt votes 166 thus bringing to a number of votes counted to 50776.
Robert Beine, Ntungamo district returning officer on Thursday night declared Moses Kahima Mugabe Ruhama County MP after he obtained large number of votes.
Ruhama County seat fell vacant after the death of William Nzikuratire last year.
On Tuesday the NRM chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni combed the constituency
canvassing support for the NRM flag-bearer, Moses Kahima Mugabe. He addressed four rallies in the constituency.
“I urge the people of Ruhaama to vote for Kahima and the NRM. It is easier for an MP who is close to the government to deliver services to the wanainchi,” he appealed to voters.
Adding that independent MPs do not sit in the NRM caucus and are therefore constrained to effectively deliberate over and address the needs of the people.
