Cheaters nabbed, poor performing districts named

Results of 2,559 candidates have been withheld pending completion of investigations of exam malpractice.

The worst performing districts were also named. Kween, Bukwo, Tororo, Kayunga, Mbale, Mayuge, Kamuli, Buvuma, Budaka and Bududa were listed as having had the worst performing candidates.

UPE Candidates shine

Universal Primary Education Candidates continued to improve their performance. UNEB announced while releasing the results.

“About three quarters of the registered children are from UPE schools and failure rate is higher in UPE schools at 11% compared to 4% in non UPE schools. We have gradually been reducing the number of students who register for exams and don’t sit for them. In 2017, we registered 2.4%, the lowest ever recorded. There was significant improvement in SST and Science. There was a decline in distinction for both English and Mathematics.”

Examiners also indicated that there was improvement on the layout of how candidates have been presenting answers. The handwriting has improved, UNEB said.

Performance in 2017 was better than 2016 except for the Division One Level.
