Army responds to Besigye’s mutiny calls

The military has come out strongly to deny what it termed as falsehoods peddled by opposition kingpin Col Kizza Besigye.

UPDF publicist Brig Richard Karemire on Thursday afternoon took to his Twitter Page to rebut Besigye’s claims that majority of the soldiers are disgruntled because of low pay and forceful deduction of their salary to Wazalendo saving scheme and of which their deposits are embezzled by top army administration.

“Dr Besigye should stop telling lies. Wazalendo is a very successful voluntary saving scheme. It is not compulsary and has served many soldiers to improve on their welfare,” Karemire said.

Besigye would later add that the army should therefore rise against the regime to which it’s a subject.

Karemire when contacted by this website on Besigye’s mutiny calls responded; “UPDF is disciplined, patriot, pro-people and Pan-Africanist.”

He added, ” we can never go by Besigye’s words. Let him leave us alone.”

Besigye on Thursday made the claims at his offices on Katonga Road while addressing the press.

Under the campaign Besigye and his followers will swear in the peoples’ cabinet, launch Peoples’ Assembly and constitute a shadow umbrella of 317 MPs who voted in favour of age limit bill.

Besigye further said specific actions will be announced through appropriate channels to evade State interference.
