High Court throws out opposition petition against Kadaga

High Court in Kampala has dismissed a petition against Speaker Rebecca Kadaga for suspending six opposition MPs from the house during the age limit bill debate.

High Court Judge Justice Margaret Oumo Oguli pushed the matter to the Constitutional Court saying the Civil Division of the High Court has no jurisdiction to handle the matter.

In a ruling read by the Deputy Registrar Joy Kabagye, Oguli said each side should bear its costs.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who represented the opposition MPs said he has never seen what happened today in all his 19 years as a lawyer.

“This is the third time we are appearing before this court. The ruling is not well grounded because the matter must be laid out in the court proceedings,” he told journalists outside High Court.

The youth were carrying placards written on “petition blocks youths from participating in substantive politics” “leave Kadaga alone, she is following the law”.

“We are here to show support for Rebecca Kadaga, she didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t see why these fake MPs like the Ssewanyanas and Munyagwas are making noise, they should even leave parliament, we’re coming for you in the next election,” a protester was heard saying.
