The Parliament of Uganda on Wednesday afternoon voted in favour of disputed age limit bill which seeks to scrap age cap of 75 years should it be passed into a law.
317 legislators both from ruling party- NRM and on independent ticket voted YES, 97 voted against while two abstained.
The voting to enable Parliament to proceed to the next level for the second reading of the bill where all clauses would be discussed one at ago.
Some of critical clauses encompassed in this bill include restoration of term limits where a President will serve only two terms and extension of five year term to seven years for MPs.
Where the ruling party had majority votes, 19 of its lawmakers defied and voted against removal of Presidential age limit.
