Maj Gen Mugyenyi takes over as deputy Commander Air Force

Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi has Tuesday taken over office of Deputy Commander Air Force from Maj General Sam Kavuma.

Mugyenyi, the former Air Defence (AD) replaced Kavuma following recent changes that saw the latter promoted and appointed Deputy Commander Land Forces and Maj Gen Mugyenyi appointed D/CAF in a merger of Airforce (AF) and Air Defence(AD).

The hand over take over ceremony was presided over by the Commander Air Force (CAF) Maj  General Charles Lutaaya and witnessed by UPDF Chief of Staff (COS) Brig Birungi,  Uganda Air Force Academy Commander Brig Kazahura, Under Secretary Air Force Mr. Mutabazi UPDAF Air Base Comanders and Directors at UPDAF Hq Entebbe.

In his remarks, Maj General Sam Kavuma appreciated UPDF Leadership for having given him the privilege of serving within Air force,  which opportunity has enabled him to enhance his knowledge especially in the field of Air Force.
“I can now move to international conferences and confidently discuss and deliberate Air Force issues” said Maj Gen Kavuma.

He also thanked CAF Maj Gen Charles Lutaaya for having delegated to him responsibilities that have enabled him perform his roles deligently through team work,  cooperation and vertical/horizontal consultations.

Maj General Gavas Mugyenyi the incoming D/CAF thanked UPDF leadership for the appointment and requested UPDAF leadership to extend the support and cooperation that was accorded to Maj Gen Kavuma.

He said the appointment is a tour of duty he is ready to perform professionally.
He intimated to UPDAF to maintain the already existing spirit of cooperation as they work harder towards maintaining UPDAF mission and mandate.

Maj Gen Mugyenyi said he is happy to ‘be back home’ in Air Force. He asserted the fact that he will continue to perform in accordance with strategic guidance from UPDF leadership and CAF.

Maj General Charles Lutaaya Commander Air Force(CAF) congratulated Maj Gen Kavuma upon his promotion and appointment as Deputy Commander Land Forces D/CLF.

He said Maj Gen Kavuma’s professional leadership and command style massively contributed to UPDAF progression and performance.
He asked Gen Kavuma to take on the role of an ‘Air Force ambassador’ at his new office since he has been at the helm of UPDAF leadership.

Maj Gen Lutaaya welcomed the incoming D/CAF and promised him utmost support and cooperation. He further appreciated and welcomed the vast knowledge and experience from AD as they integrate with AF.

He finally congratulated both the incoming D/CAF and out going D/CLF upon their appointments and promotion.
